American coin silver child′s cup or mug by Isaac Baldwin and Company of Newark, New Jersey, c.1845.
This attractive straight bodied mug has a large central floral and scroll Repousse cartouche flanked by floral and foliate Repousse decorations. The cup sits on a flared circular base with a die rolled shield and dart border and an applied chain rim. The reverse cast C scroll handle adds to the appeal of this special cup.
Weighing 123 grams or 4 ozs. Troy, this special cup is 3" in diameter at the base, 2 7/8z" in diameter at the rim and 4" across the handle.
The cartouche is inscribed: Jeannie Ames Sprague from her Grandma Jane Ames Sprague 4.
It was likely given on the girl′s fourth birthday.
